3rd book of 2025 is The Dragon Republic by RF Kuang. The 2nd book of The Poppy War series. It took me almost 2 weeks to finish this book bcoz i fell sick and then my 2 kids also fell sick 😫 Anyway, i like this book better than the firet one, obviously. I feel like Rin's character finally developed well, and it feels like the story in this book grew her. I also love the fact that this book is getting more mature with all those political drama, war strategies, betrayals, and the dead of some beloved characters. Also, i suddenly feel the urge to annotated. [Before the coffee gets cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi] 4⭐️ My 2025 4th book review is using a different format because...i pour it down into my journal during the flight to the US. Mind my ugly handwriting as i jotted it down during a mild turbulence..and i couldn't just wait till it ended 😆 I almost DNF this book. This book is all about the people who are afraid of being happy because of their trauma or unfortunate events in the past. They feel they don't deserve happiness or nhst scared that it will only bring them to more desperation in the end. It sounds strong, but truly, this book starts so slow! There are 4 stories in this book, but I really felt the first 2 stories are "distracting" the main story about Kazu. I was expecting that each of the stories are touching and warming, but i didnt get that clique feeling in my heart from those first 2 stories. Tho, i was keeping my eyes on Kazu and her feeling, thought, and arc. And actually, by keeping our eyes on Kazu, we became aware with certain details. And started from the 3rd story, we can finally see the all red thread and the silver linings. And once we saw these...it felt like an explosion in our heart, in a good way. And when it followed by how Kazu face her grief and decided to become happy, it finally answered to my expectation that this book can actually warm my heart. Oh btw, i fell in love with Kazu since the beginning. Her matter-of-factly behaviour is really interesting and now that we know the reason behind it, it just made me want to hug her! Tho I'm pretty sure she won't enjoy it let alone allow me. Lol!
